This page is dedicated to the proposition that your Porsche was meant to be driven, that there are lots of nice roads to drive on, and that there are some interesting places to drive to. Therefore, this page will provide links to both short (day) and longer (week or more) driving trips. If you own a "garage queen," then perhaps this page will encourage you to hit the open road and enjoy your Porsche in the manner in which Ferry Porsche intended it should be enjoyed - with the engine running and the wheels turning. If you have made some interesting trips in your Porsche, or know of other sites devoted to road trips, then you are invited to submit an account of your trip or the link to the webmaster for posting. For example, check out this link from LSR member David Weimer (select "Maps," "More Maps," or "Even More Maps") for some trips in the Kerrville / Fredericksburg area. |
Long Trips |
|
| The Colorado Plateau | |
| Time of Year | November (2002) |
| Vehicle | 1997 Boxster |
| Duration | 12 days |
| Distance Covered | 3,443 miles |
| Brief Description: The goal of this trip was to visit two (later extended to three) natural wonders on the Colorado Plateau - Mesa Verde, Monument Valley, and Natural Bridges. We made an unscheduled stop in Santa Fe to repair a blow-out, and took a side trip to Durango in southern Colorado and to Cedaredge in northern Colorado to visit friends. Aside from the blow-out we encountered some challenging weather (light snow), but by traveling to this area in November, we missed all the crowds and had the attractions pretty much to ourselves. The roads through New Mexico, western Colorado, and the Navajo nation are spectacular in a Porsche. |

| Carlsbad Caverns, Fort Davis, and Big Bend | |
| Time of Year | March
(2003) |
| Vehicle | 2001
Carerra Cab |
| Duration | 6
days |
| Disctance Covered | 1575
miles |
Brief Description: This was a test of my recently purchased Carerra (two weeks previosly) and the trip took us to Carlsbad Caverns, where we spent a day exploring, to Fort Davis, where we spent a day at the MacDonald Observatory, and to Big Bend National Park. After escaping from I-10 at Fort Stockton, the back country roads through the Durango Mountains of New Mexico, and the Davis Mountains and Big Bend desert of West Texas are, again, spectacular. But we still hit a snow storm - in the desert! |
